WATTIE ALEXANDER (ALEC). Peacefully passed away, at home, on Tuesday, 19th September, 2017. Loving husband to the late Joan beloved father to Helen and Andrew, grandfather to Alexander, Amelie and Ashton, father-in-law to Arlene. Will be sadly missed. Funeral service to be held on Thursday, 28th September at 2pm at Linn Crematorium, Lainshaw Drive, G45 9SP. Family flowers only please. Enquiries to Fosters Funeral Directors, 0141 647 8080.

I new Alec since the 1960s/70s when I worked in the motor industry and he would call up for a comment on what was happening that day in the Linwood factory... and then when he went to the BBC in Glasgow.

I briefly met him on a couple of occasions when he was latterly with North Ayrshire Council and I was living and freelancing in the county - he always remained a real 'Gentleman of the Press' of which there are so few these days.

My thoughts are with all his family.
