Sam Fletcher talks about his new show, Daftwerk.
1 Tell us about your Fringe show
It's a stupid showcase of my skills. From a range of my own inventions to a dance where I move a grape from my sleeve all the way to my trouser leg.
2 Best thing about the Fringe?
The Summer weather.
3 Worst thing about the Fringe?
Flyers. Tons and tons of flyers.
4 How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?
I've been coming back for about 8 years now and every time it feels different but familiar. Like when mum gets a new haircut.
5 Favourite Fringe venue?
I once saw a show in a mobile toilet. Which was actually better than a lot of the venues up here.
6 Best Fringe memory?
My favourite Fringe memory was when I was told I'd been nominated for the newcomer award by Tim Key, who'd rushed across the meadows to let me know. He then bought me an Aperol spritzer, so you know, bitter-sweet memories.
7 Best heckle?
In 2012 I let a lady and her dog into my show (it was on the Free Fringe, so I was doing the door and thought it was a fun idea). 20 minutes into the show the dog started to dry retch very loudly, over and over again, so was taken out with his owner. It's hard to respond to that.
8 Craziest on stage experience?
See above.
9 What’s on your rider?
I bring my own rider that consists of an iphone charger, a felafal wrap and 30,000 M&Ms.
10 How do you wind down after a show?
I fill the venue with hot water and have a bath. It annoys the people on after me.
11 What do you love about Scotland?
I've got a lot of love for Scotland. And the journey up on the train is one of the best views ever.
12 What do you like about Edinburgh?
I love a city that has a massive mountain right in the middle of it.
13 What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?
I will say yes to the weird, vinegary ketchup at the chip shops up here.
14 What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?
I do a lot of visual stuff, which seems to go down pretty well with the people who can see.
15 Favourite joke?
I went to my first ever Christening. Was a bit nervous and knocked over a candle. That was a baptism of fire.
16 Favourite Scottish food/drink?
The breakfast of champions: Tunnock's Wafer and an Irn Bru.
Sam Fletcher: Daftwerk is on at Underbelly, George Square until August 28.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
