PARTICK Folk Club’s guest for May is one of Scotland’s leading traditional singers, Mick West. As well as releasing a series of acclaimed albums, West has been a frequent nominee in the Scots Trad Music Awards as Scots Singer of the Year and has tutored young singers at the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music at Plockton. He appears with his accompanist of long standing, guitarist Frank McLaughlin at the club’s home, St Peter's Church Hall, 66 Chancellor Street, Partick on Friday May 26. HERALD Angel-winning singer and comedienne Terry Neason and her band open a busy and varied June for Glasgow promoters PM Music with two nights at Cottiers in Hyndland on Thursday and Friday June 1 and 2. The promoters also present singer-guitarist Fischer-Z at Oran Mor on June 2nd, emerging band The Reason at 02 ABC on June 3rd, singer-songwriter Adam Beattie at the Hug & Pint on June 4th and vintage jazz specialists The Dime Notes at Webster’s Theatre on June 6th. Producer and musician The Mad Professor appears at Cottiers on June 9th, rock band Sianar at Oran Mor on June 10th and singer-songwriter Neil Thomson at the Hug & Pint on June 11. EYEMOUTH Hippodrome continues to bring regular international roots music and jazz concerts to the Berwickshire port with four events in June. Award-winning young Glasgow-based jazz quartet Square One appear on Saturday 3rd. They’re followed on Thursday 8th by Scandinavian folk band Basco, who were one of the hits of Celtic Connections 2017, then on Saturday 16th by traditional and contemporary folk duo, virtuoso guitar picker Steve Hicks and singer Lyn Goulburn. American blues singer Kent Duchaine brings his trusty steel guitar Lead Bessie to the venue on 21st. All concerts begin at 8:00pm.

GLASGOW'S Star Folk Club has announced a full programme for June. Anglo-American guitar-fiddle pairing James Hickman and Dan Cassidy present music from both sides of the Atlantic on June 6th. Guitarist Steve Hicks and singer Lyn Goulbourn follow on June 13th. Borders-based traditional and contemporary folk band Real Time appear on June 20th, with harmony specialists Cloudstreet following on June 27th. The club meets every Tuesday in the Admiral Bar in Waterloo Street and the music begins at 8:00pm.
