THE GAELIC broadcaster MG Alba has announced a series of co-productions worth £5.2m.

The series of deals will make programmes for BBC Alba, the Gaelic-language television channel.

The deals see the channel’s suppliers teaming up with production companies in Germany, Denmark, Iceland, France, Norway and Canada, as well as Ireland and Wales.

Some of the programmes due for broadcast in 2018/19 include The Far Traveller, an hour-long documentary charting the story of a pioneering female Viking explorer from 1000AD, produced by Icelandic filmmakers ProFilm and MacTV.

Bridge over the Atlantic is a Canadian Scottish co-production featuring musicians from both sides of the Atlantic exploring their common musical heritage.

The deals also include a further series of Port – the channel’s music programme.

CRIMEFEST is celebrating its 10th anniversary by expanding its crime fiction giveaway to libraries across the country.

Libraries in Glasgow will receive some of the 4000 crime novels being given away on May 5 by the UK festival.

Eleven publishers have donated books by thirty-five authors to this crime fiction giveaway being hosted at twenty libraries in total.

Libraries in Anniesland, Dennistoun, Partick and Pollok, as well as the Mitchell Library, will benefit.

Crimefest takes place in Bristol.

THE MERCHANTS House of Glasgow has announced a further set of concerts to be held in support of the four hundred year old charity’s Social Impact Partnership.

The partnership, which has seen an injection of £200,000 to help alleviate homelessness, rough sleeping and associated issues in the city, is working with Social Bite.

Saxophone and piano duo Tommy Smith and Brian Kellock appear on June 17 and Scottish National Jazz Orchestra saxophonist Paul Towndrow premieres a major new commission, Deepening the River on August 10 and 11.
