CHRISTMAS is coming and the Scots town of Little Haven is looking forward to some festive fun. But best laid plans and all that go for nothing when a zombie apocalypse is on the way. John McPhail’s comedy plays out like a Shaun of the Dead remake with X-Factor-style ballads instead of chart toppers. McPhail has done wonders with a small budget and the young cast are a likeable bunch. Just a pity the film is tonally all over the shop, being too violent (check out that 15 certificate) for the pre-teen crowd and not funny enough for anyone older.
Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck it Ralph 2***

IT has been six years since Disney’s video game arcade characters stormed the box office. John C Reilly and Sarah Silverman are back as Ralph and his girl racer pal Vanellope. When a broken steering wheel looks like putting Vanellope out of a job, the pair go in search of one in the newly arrived internet (yes, it’s a period piece). The story takes forever to get going, but this animated caper is fizzing with bright ideas, the best of which is a skit featuring all of Disney’s princesses, including Kelly Macdonald as an unintelligible Merida from Brave, sharing a house. Now that is a terrific idea for a film.
