Paul McMullan talks about his new show, Alocopop.
1 Tell us about your Fringe show
Its called Alcopop, it's about Me, two kids, being drunk, sobering up, finding love, losing love and 4 dogs, and not necessarily in that order.
2 How does it feel to be playing the Fringe for the first time?
Excited and apprehensive, we all invest so much into these shows physically, mentally and financially, there are so many shows to see I just hope they come to mine and enjoy it.
3 Live act most looking forward to seeing at Fringe?
Bill Burr he's my favourite comedian by far, saw him in London and nearly passed out laughing.
4 If you were not a performer/comedian what would you be doing?
Working on a building site wishing I had listened more at school 5 How do you combat pre-gig nerves?
I don't drink or smoke anymore but I'm still on the nicotine gum, I chew through a pack before most shows. as soon as i put my foot on the stage the nerves go.
6 Worst on stage experience?
Every comedian dies at some stage of there career its normal, I remember a gig last year were the opening act lasted 8 minutes before being booed off, we had been booked to do 30 minutes each, It was moments like that where I wished I had listened more at school and got a better job. I did alright though I got to 20 minutes and thought better not push my luck, I'm booked again this year, though on the better day apparently.
7 How do you recover from a hefty heckle?
I don't know if it me or my style but I don't really get heckled, I can be quite self deprecating, so if its not going that well I normally heckle my self, takes away their ammunition.
8 What do you love about Scotland?
I'm a Celt at heart, I love the people, the scenery and the fact there is nothing you won't deep fry, best chips in the world.
9 What do you like about Edinburgh?
The hills, helps me keep the weight down after all those late night chippy visits. It's also a brilliant city, it has those independent shops that other big cities seemed to have lost.
10 What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?
Apart from having a very Scottish surname, getting drunk on Buckfast must be up there.
11 Who’s your favourite Scottish comedian?
Too may to choose, Billy Connolly is the obvious choice, Stanley Baxter from my childhood always made me laugh.
12 Favourite joke?
If you want one of mine you'll have to come to my show
13 Favourite Scottish food/drink?
Deep Fried Pizza, it's like gastronomic crack, so wrong but so good and highly addictive, washed down with Irn Bru.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
