James Adomian’s debut Edinburgh Fringe comedy show ‘Lacking In Character’ will be at the Gilded Balloon – Sportsman for the month of August.
1 Tell us about your Fringe show
My Fringe show is an hour of stand-up. I’m gay, I do impressions and tell stories. Then, everybody pays their drink tabs and leave.
2 How does it feel to be playing the Fringe for the first time?
I got to do a very short run at the Fringe two years ago as part of the Audible.com “The Americans Are Coming.” So I got a taste of it and it seemed like a lot of fun. Edinburgh is a lot more fun than they lead us to believe outside of Edinburgh. This is definitely a longer run and more intense commitment and I’m excited and looking forward to catch some of my friends.
3 Best live act you’ve seen at a Fringe?
Kyle Kinane - because I know him already and he got me in to see his show for free
4 Best thing about the Fringe?
I don’t have enough experience to answer that. It’s all great!
5 Worst thing about the Fringe?
I don’t have enough experience to answer that. It’s all a nightmare!
6 If you were not a performer what would you be doing?
All of the sad indulgent things that comedians do to themselves outside of performing
7 How do you combat pre-gig nerves?
I have a drink and I look at my notes. And somebody comes back and says, “Hey, you’re supposed to have started the show already!” And then I run out panicked.
8 Worst on stage experience?
I got booed off stage in Florida once opening for Joan Rivers, and I’ll probably talk about that in my show. But besides that, there was an interesintg moment when I have my short little dip into the Fringe in 2015 where a guy got up and pissed on the stage. And he got chased around and it was really hard for me to not play Benny Hill music in my head.
9. What do you love about Scotland?
I like that the Scottish place names and proper names sound like terrifying Lord of the Rings characters to an American here.
10 What do you think you are going to like about Edinburgh?
Luckily, I like a good drink and I think they have a few ways to accommodate that.
11 What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve ever done?
Well, I used to perform on Craig Ferguson on CBS as President George W. Bush, and if that doesn’t count, I guess maybe watching Ducktales?
12 Favourite Scottish food/drink?
I like a wide variety of pints but I’ve never tried Scottish food, so I’m interested in finding out.
13 Sum up your show in three words
Three not enough

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
