TRIO Woody Pines return to Scotland this week following a series of sold-out performances in England and Wales. The Nashville-based roots group, whose style incorporates string band, country blues and jug band music, recently signed to roots music champions Muddy Roots Records and were among the artists personally selected by Radio 2 presenter Bob Harris to appear on the stage he hosted at the Country 2 Country festival at the 02 arena in London in March last year. They appear at Eastgate Theatre, Peebles tonight; Acoustic Music Club, Kirkcaldy on Thursday; CatStrand, New Galloway on Friday; Glenbuchat Hall, Strathdon on Saturday; and The Blue Lamp, Aberdeen on Sunday.

LONDON-based klezmer band She’Koyokh play two Scottish gigs in May. The band, whose name is a Yiddish word meaning “nice one”, began life as street performers in the East End of London in 2001 and quickly graduated to touring internationally. They have since appeared at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and at festivals in Munich and Budapest as well as at Glastonbury, Cheltenham and WOMAD festivals. Their fourth album, First Dance on Second Avenue, was released earlier this year. They play The Nomad’s Tent in St Leonard’s Lane, Edinburgh on Friday, May 5 as part of the Ottoman Horizons Festival and Letham Village Hall in Fife on Saturday, May 6.
