ABERDEEN'S Peacock Visual Arts Centre and the Barn at Banchory will, this month, collaborate for the first time on an exhibition of prints from some of the key artists Peacock has attracted to work in its studios. The prints themselves come from work published by Peacock in the past six years, although some has not been exhibited before.
The collaboration is, in part, a result of both organizations running under new directorship – Lorraine Grant at the Barn and Nuno Sacramento at Peacock. The two organizations might be very different – the Barn’s remit is more broad-ranging in terms of the arts – but their aims, as Grant points out, are at heart very similar: “To deliver high quality art to our communities in the North East.”
"A programming partnership with Peacock Visual Arts felt a very timely conversation for the Barn's gallery committee to pursue this year,” says Grant when I ask how the exhibition came about. “We’ve both recently celebrated over two decades of operation and supporting the best artists from across the UK to make work in the North East of Scotland.”
Artists represented in this print exhibition include Claire Barclay, John Byrne, Mike Giant, Tom Hammick, Kenny Hunter, Janice Kerbel, Scott Myles, David Noonan, Toby Paterson, Ralph Steadman, Donald Urquhart and Frances Walker alongside many others. There will also be a series of workshops, from Relief Printing to a Family Fun Day (all detailed on the Woodend Barn website), and talks.
