COLLAGEN Solutions, the Glasgow-based maker of medical-grade collagen for research, medical devices and regenerative medicine, has announced the appointment of a new chief executive to lead global growth, particularly in the United States.

Jamal Rushdy, who joined the company as chief business officer last November, has taken over as chief executive with immediate effect from Stewart White, who has transitioned to chief scientific officer.

Mr White founded the business – which started life as part of the Moodiesburn, Glasgow-based sausage skin maker Devro – in 2014, and will be focusing on the relaunch of a recently acquired product for healing wounds.

Mr Rushdy is a former vice president of Tornier, a Minneapolis orthopaedics and biologics company, and has a track record in building businesses, including two mid-size high growth public companies and three successful start-ups.

“Jamal’s experience in global medical technology organisations, and his contribution and recent track record with our company, gives us confidence that he will continue the momentum and execution of our strategic initiatives,” said Collagen Solutions chairman David Evans.

The company also announced that its full year revenues would be ahead of expectations at £3.2 million, versus prior guidance of £2.8m. This was partly due to an improved sales process, alongside global sales and integration synergies. Collagen Solutions said it now had dedicated sales people in Europe, Asia, and North America. Last month it announced a new joint venture in China.
