WALLETS Marts sold 376 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1365 per head and 272.4p per kg to average £844.81 and 233.4p (+13.6p on the fortnight), while 620 store bullocks peaked at £1270 and 296.2p to level at £945.93 and 249.8p (+20.7p).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1634 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £100 per head and 212.8p per kg to average 175p (-3.6p on the week), while 27 prime lambs peaked at £115 and 254.8p to level at 238.8p (-6.1p).

There were also 327 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes sold to £136 for Texels and averaged £76.78, while light ewes peaked at £68.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £57.60.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 63 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 254p and an average of 218p (-3p), while 22 prime bullocks peaked at 235p and levelled at 219p (+3p). Three prime bulls sold to 208p and averaged 218p.

In the rough ring 28 beef cows sold to 201p and averaged 147.6p (no change).

There were also 820 prime hoggs that sold to £97 and 237p to average 176.6p (+10p), while 20 prime lambs peaked at £120 and 255p to level at 209.5p(n/c).

The 317 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £100 for a Zwartble and average £79 while light ewes peaked at £74 for Cheviots and levelled at £54.

The firm also sold 13 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 231.5p and an average of 210.3p (+5.8p), while 30 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 233.5p and levelled at 205.6p (+4.1p). Three prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 178.5p and averaged 168.8p (+12.3p). Forty-two prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 233.5p and averaged 193.5p (+12.9p), while 75 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 188.5p and levelled at 163.6p (-5.6p).

In the rough ring 108 beef cows sold to 213.5p and averaged 157.4p, while 238 dairy cows peaked at 182.5p and levelled at 119.2p (+8.2p). Six bulls sold to 181.5p and averaged 155.8p (+22.9p).

There were also 1343 prime hoggs that sold to £97.80 and 223.3p to average 179p (+4.9p), while 23 prime lambs peaked at £83.80 and 214.1p to level at 194.1p (-5.3p).

A small show of 79n cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £109.50 for Texels and average £74.58, while light ewes peaked at £77.50 for Swaledales and levelled at £56.42.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 31 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 256p and an average of 230.4p (-0.6p), while 7 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 214p and levelled at 206.3p (+1.1p). Seven prime, B&W bullocks sold to 145.5p and averaged 140.9p (-6.1p).

In the rough ring 44 beef cows averaged 132p (n/c), while 43 dairy cows levelled at 110p (n/c)

The firm also sold 2383 prime hoggs to a top of £110 and 234p to average 175.9p (-5p).

The 509 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £138.50 for a Texel and average £77.79, while light ewes peaked at £76.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £50.02.
