A GLASGOW bar and restaurant which launched with a mission to highlight food and drink sourced on the west coast of Scotland has become one of only two in the world to stock the inaugural spirit from the Ardnamurchan Distillery.

The venue, also called Ardnamurchan, has secured six bottles of the 2016AD to sell to its customers, with a bar in Sydney, Australia, the only other to get its hands on the limited edition bottling. Only 2,500 bottles of the spirit were released by the distiller, owner by Dunfermline-based whisky bottler Adelphi, despite receiving orders for 7,500.

The Ardnamurchan bar, launched by well-known Glasgow operators Neil Douglas and Billy Mcaneney, stocks more than 50 Scotch whiskies, as well Scottish beers and gins. Ingredients from west coast suppliers, including black pudding from Stornoway, halibut from Gigha and salmon from Tobermory, feature on the menu.

Alison Thewliss, the SNP election candidate for Glasgow Central, had the honour of opening the first bottle at the bar.

Mr Douglas said: “There’s food from so many other parts of the world in Glasgow but only a couple of restaurants specialising in Scottish cuisine. Glasgow is the gateway to the West Coast and we felt it was time the city had a restaurant that makes the most of all the great farms and fisheries on its doorstep.

“It seems to have struck a chord with Glaswegians we have spoken to during the building work, who are excited to see something different coming to the city.”
