ENVIRONMENTAL technology firm NetThings is targeting smaller commercial, and residential, properties for the first time with the launch of a web-enabled monitoring and control system that can reduce energy consumption by up to 20 per cent.

The move comes after the Edinburgh-based business, in December, successfully closed a £1.2 million funding round.

The new system was unveiled yesterday at the global 2017 Niagara Forum in London, and is believed to be a world first.

The nanoBEMS (nano building energy management system) powered by NetThings’ software framework, enables commercial buildings not large enough for a standard BEMS to monitor and control a range of functions.

George McGhee, NetThing chief executive, said: “Smart building controls can positively impact the physical environment in which people work in areas such as lighting, humidity, temperature and air quality. When effectively controlled a healthy, productive workplace environment is created.”
