Messrs Craig Wilson had 11 prime heifers forward at Ayr yesterday that met a similar trade to last week, despite being a poorer show for quality, selling to a top of £1296 per head and 226p per kg and averaging £1215.70 and 219.6p.

In the rough ring all classes were sharper on the week with 49 beef cows selling to £1260 and 151.8p and averaging 127.5p, while 81 dairy cows peaked at £960 and 125.8p to level at 99.3p.

Once again there was a plain show of 13 dairy cattle forward that sold to £1380 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1298.

Wallets Marts sold 374 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £85 per head on three occasions and 196.3p per kg to average £69.77 and 168.8p (+5.9p on the week).

A small show of 100 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £84 for a Texel, £70.50 for Mules and £50 for Blackfaces.
