Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 41 store heifers in Lockerbie yesterday to a top of 241p per kg and an average of 212.2p (-1.1p on the fortnight), while 96 store bullocks peaked at 265p and levelled at 216p (-5.1p).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 8 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 232p and an average of 223p, while a prime bull fetched 159p.
In the rough ring 57 beef cows averaged 135.2p and 130 dairy cows levelled at 101.9p.
The firm also had 73 beef-breeding cattle at its monthly sale. Top prices and averages: Bulls to 1650gns for a Shorthorn and averaged £1548.75 for 4; cows with calf-at-foot £1420 and £1216.66 for 6; in-calf cows £1420 and £1030.63 for 17; bulling heifers £1540 and £1125 for 46.
At the weekly sale of dairy cattle the 15 head forward sold to £1320 for a second-calved Holstein Friesian and averaged £1199.
Wallets Marts had 862 prime hoggs forward in Castle Douglas yesterday that included 503 Blackfaces and sold to a top of £92.50 per head and 202.6p per kg to average £66.50 and 162.4p (-6.4p).
A small show of 128 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £83 for Suffolks and £40 for blackfaces.
