Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 12 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1338.75 per head and 234p per kg to average £1184.34 and 221.7p (-1.3p on the week).

In the rough ring 77 beef cows sold to £1140 and 169.6p to average 136.4p (+1.2p), while 126 dairy cows peaked at £1000 and 140p to level at 102.6p (+0.7p). Seven bulls sold to £1560 and 145.8p to average 115.5p (-4.2p).

The firm also held its monthly show and sale of pedigree Holstein Friesians when the champion animal in the yard was a calved cow from Messrs Hunter, West Tarbrax that went on to sell for 1950 guineas. The 12 pedigree dairy cattle forward averaged £1508.50, while 7 commercial dairy cattle levelled at £1241.50.

Wallets Marts had 885 prime hoggs forward in Castle Douglas yesterday that sold to a top of £90 per head and 200p per kg to average £65.30 and 161.7p (-0.7p).

A small show of 85 cast sheep met a sharper trade on the week with ewes selling to £88 for Suffolks, £73.50 for Mules and £57 for Blackfaces.
