C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their fortnightly sale of store cattle in Dumfries yesterday that included a show of 37 head overwintered by young farmers. The champion rosette was awarded to Ali Jackson, Maulcastle for a Limousin bullock that sold for £2000 (362.3p/kg), while the reserve went to Hannah Sloan, Rigghead, also for a Limousin bullock, that fetched £1520 (302p).

Out-with the show 121 heifers sold to 267.1p per kg and averaged 210.2p (+2.8p on the fortnight), while 128 bullocks peaked at 245.2p and levelled at 208.4p (-9.2p). Ten store bulls sold to 214p and averaged 207.8p (+15.8p), while 18 store, B&W bullocks peaked at 150p and levelled at 145.6p (no comparison).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2294 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £100

per head and 238.1p per kg to average 166.1p (-13.9p on the week).

There were also 431 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes sold to £145 for Texels and averaged £75.84, while light ewes peaked at £74.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £53.47.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 55 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 246p and an average of 212p (-8p), while 15 prime bullocks peaked at 238p and levelled at 217p (+5p).

In the rough ring 33 beef cows sold to 181p and averaged 140p (no change).

There were also 1294 prime hoggs that sold to £95 and 201p to average 166p (-10p).

The 173 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £111 for a Suffolk and average £85, while light ewes peaked at £67 for Cheviots and levelled at £45.

The firm also sold 9 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 225.5p and an average of 195.8p (no change), while 22 prime bullocks peaked at 215.5p and levelled at 194.7p (+4.2p). Thirty-seven prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 233.5p and averaged 188p (+3.2p), while 45 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 184.5p and levelled at 160.7p (+1.4p).

In the rough ring 48 beef cows sold to 200.5p and averaged 142.1p (+3.2p), while 220 dairy cows peaked at 163.5p and levelled at 113.7p (+8.6p). Fifteen bulls sold to 157.5p and averaged 137.2p (-3.7p).

There were also 1865 prime hoggs that sold to £100.80 and 233.7p to average 168.7p (-16.7p).

Fifty-seven heavy ewes sold to £109.50 for Texels and averaged £85.17).

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 21 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 252p and an average of 230.8p (no change), while 4 prime beef-bred bullocks peaked at 239p and levelled at 215.2p (+1.6p). Five prime, B&W bullocks sold to 157p and averaged 145.5p (+4.2p).

In the rough ring 10 beef cows averaged 128p (+4p) and 47 dairy cows levelled at 108p (+13p).
