MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1,201 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £105 per head and 227.3pper kg to average 179.1p (+7.8p on the week), while 12 prime lambs peaked at £118 and 248.8p to level at 244.7p (no comparison).

A smaller show of 224 cast sheep were easily sold and matched last week's trade with heavy ewes selling to £132.50 for a pen of Texels and averaging £76.14, while light ewes peaked at £66.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £51.86.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 36 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 246p per kg and an average of 221p (-1p), while 26 prime bullocks peaked at 237p and levelled at 216p. A prime bull fetched 164p.

In the rough ring 31 beef cows sold to 205p and averaged 148p (+8p).

There were also 873 prime hoggs that sold to £100 and 203.8p to average 165p (-5p).

The 163 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes average £73 and light ewes level at £51.

The firm also sold 10 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 249.5p and an average of 204.6p (-27.4p), while 16 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 222.5p and levelled at 201.5p (-16.4p). A couple of prime, dairy-bred bullocks fetched 156.5p apiece. Twenty-nine prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 206.5p and averaged 180.5p (-6.7p), while 30 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 183.5p and levelled at 169.2p (+11.8p).

In the rough ring 55 beef cows sold to £1799 per head and 197.5p per kg to average 145.9p (+7.7p), while 169 dairy cows peaked at £1,362 and 158.5p to level at 110.9p (-12.4p). Ten bulls sold to £1,760 and 155.5p to average 132.9p (+3.6p).

There were also 1,537 prime hoggs that sold to £110.80 and 266.2p to average 174.1p (+4.7p), while 19 prime lambs peaked at £89.80 and 211.7p to level at 199.3p (+45.4p).

A small show of 89 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £119.50 for Texels and averaged £81.72, while light ewes peaked at £44.50 for Swaledales and levelled at £37.86.
