SIX Scottish businesses have been recognised in this year’s Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, reflecting their contribution to international trade, innovation and sustainable development.

The Scottish winners include City Legacy, the consortium of housebuilders which developed the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village, and Cumbernauld’s CMS Windows, received awards for sustainable development.

The City Legacy project provided accommodation for 6,500 athletes and officials during the Games, before being converted to 700 homes.

John Gallacher of Cruden, part of City Legacy alongside CCG, Mactaggart & Mickel and WH Malcolm, said: “The Village has won many awards in the past, but this one is extra-special. To be given a Queen’s Award for Enterprise is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the wonderful journey that The Village has taken us on here at City Legacy. It really is the icing on the cake.”

Clyde Space, the Glasgow-based satellite company, won an innovation award, while ClinTec International, Glencairn Crystal Studio and M Squared Lasers succeeded in the international trade category.

Business Secretary Greg Clark, who announced the winners of the Awards in celebration of the Queen’s 91st birthday, said: “The Queen’s Awards for enterprise highlights everything that’s great about UK business today.

“We have some of the best entrepreneurs and innovative minds in the world who are at the heart of small start-ups providing excellent customer service to larger businesses developing global solutions.”

“I am extremely proud to see such a wealth of businesses from Scotland being recognised today.”
