FIRSTGROUP has seen off concerns that fares could rise on the London to Exeter service as a result of the transport giant being awarded the South Western rail franchise.
The company runs the only other London to Exeter route under the Greater Western Railway franchise. An initial probe by the Competition and Markets Authority led to fears the South Western award could result in higher fares or worse service. But the watchdog has now accepted proposals from FirstGroup and MTR to keep prices fair.
