A DUBLIN-BASED aparthotel company is to develop a venue in Edinburgh with branding inspired by Irish literary giant Oscar Wilde.
Staycity Aparthotels is to open the second destination under its Wilde Aparthotels brand in the city’s historic King’s Stables Road, originally used a medieval tiltyard for jousting tournaments in honour of King James IV, who reigned Scotland between 1488 and 1513.
The historic site, which later became home to the Royal horses, has been vacant since 2009, having most recently been used by owner City of Edinburgh Council as offices, storage and workshops.
Although the bulk of Staycity’s development will be built as new, the company said parts of the medieval wall will be incorporating to reflect its historical importance. The centrepiece will be an arts facility, incorporating a gallery and exhibition space, looking on to King’s Stables Road.
The Edinburgh aparthotel forms part of a wider development including residential and commercial units and student accommodation. It is hoped the apartments will be open in 2019.
