GILLESPIE Macandrew chief executive Chris West is retiring from the firm after leading it to its highest-ever turnover figure in the 2016/17 financial year.
Mr West has led the Edinburgh-based firm since 2015, when he stepped up from chief operating officer to take over management duties from then managing partner Ian Turnbull.
Although he is not a lawyer, Mr West had held roles at Shepherd and Wedderburn and Pinsent Masons legacy firm McGrigors prior to joining Gillespie Macandrew.
The firm has continued the tradition of putting a non-lawyer in the top leadership role by appointing Robert Graham-Campbell as Mr West’s replacement.
He joins from London property law firm Pemberton Greenish, where he has been chief executive for the past six years.
Having started his career at asset management business Robert Fleming & Co, Mr Graham-Campbell more recently ran London barristers’ chambers Seven Bedford Row and Maitland Chambers.
Gillespie Macandrew chairman Fiona Morton said Mr Graham-Campbell would be a welcome addition to the firm “particularly as he has already demonstrated an approach to the CEO role that we feel is strongly aligned with our values as a firm”.
In the last financial year the firm grew its turnover by nine per cent to £11.4 million although profits dipped slightly from £2.9m to £2.8m.
