WALLETS Marts sold 64 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1,105 per head and 253.6p per kg to average £753.44 and 211.9p (+5.3p on the fortnight), while 129 store bullocks peaked at £1,375 and 264.2p to level at £876.51 and 228.1p (+0.3p).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1,518 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £110 per head and 239.5p per kg to average 202.8p (+8.1p on the week and +33.3p on the corresponding sale last year).
A large show of 932 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £150 for Texels and average £76.84, while light/export-type ewes peaked at £69.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £43.48.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 47 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 249p and an average of 227p (+7p), while 21 prime bullocks peaked at 248p and levelled at 223p (+4p). Five prime bulls sold to 223p and averaged 212p (+13p).
In the rough ring 37 beef cows sold to 195p and averaged 158p (+16p).
There were also 1,489 prime hoggs that sold to £128 and 271.8p to average 204.6p (+4.1p).
The 542 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £137 for Texels and average £85, while light ewes peaked at £81 for Cheviots and levelled at £47.
The firm also sold 23 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 237.5p and an average of 205.8p (+5p), while 31 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 231.5p and averaged 198.7p (+1p). Eight prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 166.5p and averaged 161.9p (-2.6p). Forty-five prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 244.5p and averaged 206.5p (-0.4p), while 53 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 182.5p and levelled at 149.5p (-15.2p).
In the rough ring 113 beef cows sold to 188.5p and averaged 137.8p (+2.7p), while 225 dairy cows peaked at 155.5p and levelled at 111.5p (-0.3p).
There were also 1,648 prime hoggs that sold to £119.80 and 284.1p to average 207.6p (+0.1p).
A small show of 53 heavy ewes sold to £111.50 for Texels and averaged £69.37, while 31 light ewes peaked at £56 for Swaledales and levelled at £41.10.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 22 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 255p and an average of 234.6p (+3.1p), while seven prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 236p and levelled at 223.6p (+5.2p).
In the rough ring 50 beef cows averaged 134p (+7p) and 28 dairy cows levelled at 117.2p (+8.2p).
There were also 1760 prime hoggs that sold to £118.50 and 268p to average 207.4p (+15.4p).
A nice show of 234 heavy ewes sold to £148.50 for a Texel and averaged £77.81, while 407 light ewes peaked at £72.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £53.56.
