MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 15 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1,481 per head and 243p per kg to average 224p, while four prime bulls peaked at £999 and 188p to level at 180p.

In the rough ring 37 beef cows sold to £1,210 and 175.2p to average 134p, while 138 dairy cows peaked at £1,100 and 145.5p to level at 108.9p. Seven bulls sold to £1,660 or 165.2p to average 123.8p, while eight clean OTM heifers peaked at £1,180 and 205.2p to level at 180.2p. A couple of clean OTM bullocks sold to £1,210 (twice) and averaged 186.1p.

There were also 13 dairy cattle that sold to £1,750 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1232.

Wallets Marts Ltd sold 1,969 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £115 per head and 294.1p per kg to average £79.66 and 203.1p (no change on the week).

There was also a plainer show of cast sheep forward that also met a similar trade to last week with 221 heavy ewes selling to £117 for Texels and averaging £58.82, while 99 light/export-type ewes peaked at £58 for Lleyns and levelled at £37.25.
