ABERDEEN-based Wood has won a contract to work on a giant gas field off Australia, which is likely worth millions of dollars and will help offset the impact of spending cuts in the North Sea.

Wood will provide engineering services on the Ichthys facilities, around 130 miles off Western Australia and associated gas processing facilities in Darwin, Northern Territory. The five-year contract has a two-year extension option. Wood will run it from Perth.

The group’s chief executive Robin Watson noted that Ichthys is a complex project with an operational life of at least 40 years.
