C&D AUCTION Marts sold 18 working sheepdogs at Moffat on Saturday to a top of 4,200 guineas (£4410) for George Simpson's Gel, a three year old Black and White dog to average £1,720.

Wallets Marts sold 221 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1,150 per head and 278.4p per kg to average £902.69 and 226.1p (+5.7p on the fortnight), while 278 store bullocks peaked at £1,315 and 290.3p to level at £1,016.04 and 240.5p (+8.2p).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2,099 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £118 per head and 258.1p per kg to average 220.7p (-3.1p).

There were also 356 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes sold to £156.50 for Texels and averaged £86.14, while light/export-type ewes peaked at £94.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £62.52.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 48 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 250p and an average of 216p (no change), while 19 prime bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 214p (-6p).

In the rough ring 77 beef cows averaged 147.7p (-14p).

There were also 1067 prime hoggs forward that sold to £128 and 262p to average 212.3p (-14p).

A good show of 356 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £126 for Texels and average £84, while light ewes peaked at £103 for Cheviots and levelled at £71.

The firm also sold 22 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 239.5p and an average of 204.3p (-6.1p), while 16 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 236.5p and levelled at 211p (-13.7p). A couple of prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 155.5p and averaged 146.5p. Fifty-three prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 231.5p and averaged 184.6p (-18.4p), while 52 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 201.5p and levelled at 154.4p (-15.3p).

In the rough ring 122 beef cows averaged 144.1p (-4.8p) and 208 dairy cows levelled at 113.9p (+1.1p).

There were also 1,734 prime hoggs that sold to £128.80 and 320p to average 228.4p (-4.6p).

A modest show of cast sheep saw 94 heavy ewes sell to £117.50 for Texels and average £85.69, while 42 light ewes peaked at £59.50 for Swaledales and levelled at £43.85.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 26 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 246p and an average of 227.8p (-4.1p), while seven prime, B&W bullocks peaked at 143.5p and levelled at 137.6p (no comparison).

In the rough ring 44 beef cows averaged 133p (+3p) and 30 dairy cows levelled at 113p (-1p).

There were also 2,988 prime hoggs that sold to £138.50 and 291p to average 217.6p (-8.4p).

The 90 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £170 for a Texel and averaged £107.23, while 294 light ewes peaked at £82.50 for a Cheviot and levelled at £64.01.
