MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 12 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1,499.40 per head and 246p per kg to average £1,270.58 and 234.9p.

In the rough ring 29 beef cows sold to £1,430 and 169.2p to average 127.5p, while 134 dairy cows peaked at £1,160 and 146p to level at 115.9p. Nine bulls sold to £1,590 and 177.2p to average 133.9p, while 21 clean OTM cattle peaked at £1,130 and 194.3p to level at 153.4p.

The firm also had a small show of dairy cattle when four pedigree calved heifers sold to 2,800 guineas for a Red and White and averaged £1,932, while four commercial cows and heifers peaked at £1,620 for a calved Friesian heifer to level at £1,342.50. A couple of pedigree in-calf heifers averaged £908.25.

Wallets Marts sold 994 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £129 per head or 314.6p per kg to average 222.8p (-5.7p on the week).

Cast sheep again increased in value with 88 heavy ewes selling to £135 for Suffolks and averaging £72.45, while 191 light/export-type ewes peaked at £78 for Blackfaces and levelled at £41.72.
