CHEEKY Chompers, the Edinburgh-based baby accessories company, has won a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

The business, whose founders Julie Wilson and Amy Livingstone set up the business after meeting at antenatal class, secured the accolade for their efforts in international trade. It comes after the company launched its products in China in recent months, with the business now exporting to 36 countries. Export sales account for 70 per cent of turnover, led by the US, China and Taiwan as its biggest markets.

Cheeky Chompers has sold more than one millions of its accessories, which are designed to make life easier for parents. The nine-strong range includes its Neckerchew, a reversible and absorbent dribble bid with integrated teether, and its latest innovation, the MultiMuslin, a teething muslin. All of the products are made in the UK.

Ms Watson and Ms Livingstone, who set up the firm in 2013, said in a statement: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been awarded a Queen’s Award for International trade just five years in to business! It is a great recognition of our success in overseas markets and a tribute to the effort of our small, dedicated team in Scotland and our relationships with overseas partners, which drives our significant year on year growth. We remain true to our original values- innovative baby essentials designed by mums to make parents’ lives easier.”
