LAWRIE & Symington Ltd sold 18 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 260p per kg and an average of 248.1p (+2.1p on the week), while eight prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 249p and levelled at 221.1p (-4.1p). Ten prime, B&W bullocks sold to 159.5p and averaged 147.5p (+5.1p).
In the rough ring 21 beef cows averaged 124.8p (-6.4p) and 33 dairy cows levelled at 113.4p (-2.4p).
The firm also sold 1498 prime lambs to a top of £105 per head and 226p per kg to average 186p (-22p).
A good show of cast sheep saw 208 heavy ewes sell to £143.50 for a Texel and average £79.44, while 333 light/export-type ewes peaked at £76.50 for a Blackface and levelled at £48.56.
Wallets Marts sold 908 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £105.50 and 227.8p to average £77.89 and 187.4p (-20.4p).
Cast sheep met a similar trade to last week with leaner continental ewes being easiest to cash. Eighty-five heavy ewes sold to £101 for Texels and averaged £75.62, while 84 light ewes peaked at £64 for Blackfaces and levelled at £44.44.
