Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold nine prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 242p per kg and an average of 231p, while 4 prime bullocks peaked at 232p and levelled at 216.8p.
In the rough ring 86 beef cows averaged 110.4p and 109 dairy cows levelled at 89.2p. Seven bulls averaged109.6p and 13 clean OTM cattle levelled at 142.3p.
There were also 17 in-milk dairy cattle forward that sold to £1600 for a Holstein Friesian cow and averaged £1011, while 16 in-calf Ayrshire heifers off Messrs A&G MacDougall, Burnbank (Kilmalcoolm) peaked at £1080 and levelled at £906.
The firm went on to auction straw in the swathe when the top prices and averages were as follows: Winter wheat straw to £136 per acre and averaged £128.58 for 164 acres; spring wheat straw £100 and £100 for 176 acres; spring barley straw £117 and £110.83 for 196 acres.
Wallets Marts sold 848 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £94 per head and 206p per kg to average £77.62 and 183.7p (+5.7p on the week).
The 167 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £117 and averaged £70.62, while 184 light/export-type ewes peaked at £65 and levelled at £42.38.
