Wallets Marts sold 19 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1240 per head and 213.9p per kg to average £926.84 and 195.7p, while 69 store bullocks peaked at £1290 and 227.7p to level at £920.72 and 206.5p.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 1376 prime lambs forward at Ayr yesterday when all types were harder to cash on the week, particularly leaner ones. Top prices on the day were £103 per head and 196.7p per kg with the final average levelling at 176.3p (-10p on the week).

A larger show of cast sheep met a similar trade to last week with 605 heavy cast ewes selling to £130 for a pure Texel and averaging £83.40, while 284 light/export-type ewes peaked at £98.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £38.70.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 15 prime heifers in St

Boswells yesterday to a top of 247p and an average of 238p (+8p), while 26 prime bullocks also peaked at 247p but levelled at 217.2p (+1p).

In the rough ring 50 beef cows sold to 209p and averaged 133p (-4p).

There were also 1282 prime lambs that sold to £106 and 206p to average 178.9p (-13.1p).

A nice show of 297 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £109 for Texels and average £87, while light ewes peaked at £85 for Cheviots and levelled at £47.

The firm also sold 15 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 233.5p and an average of 200.8p (-17.7p), while 11 prime bullocks peaked at 237.5p and levelled at 208p (-0.2p). Fifty-seven prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 221.5p and averaged191.3p (+8.1p), while 23 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 173.5p and levelled at 139.8p (-10.2p).

In the rough ring 94 beef cows sold to 195.5p and averaged 126.6p (+13.5p), while 128 dairy cows peaked at 153.5p and levelled at 99.9p (+11.1p).

There were also 1278 prime lambs that sold to £95.80 and 219.7p to average 178.4p (-12.8p).

The 259 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £119.50 for Texels and averaged £67.72, while 43 light ewes peaked at £54.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £30.90.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 21 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 258p and an average of 244.4p (+3.1p), while 6 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 250p, and levelled at 223p (+2.5p). Three prime, B&W bullocks sold to 135.5p and averaged 134.5p (+1.6p).

In the rough ring 45 beef cows average 120p (-5p) and 39 dairy cows levelled at 97.5p (-3.5p). The firm also sold 1076 prime lambs to a top of £103 and 232p to average 182p (-3p).

A large show of 587 heavy cast ewes sold to £140 for Texels and averaged £79.62, while 301 light ewes peaked at £59 for Blackfaces and levelled at £38.14.
