Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 11 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1320.90 per head and 242p per kg to average £1154.09 and 220.4p, while 4 prime bullocks peaked at £1390.60 and 252p for the same beast to level at £1186.03 and 217.1p.

Trade in the rough ring was similar to last week with 108 beef cows averaging 124.6p and 117 dairy cows levelling at 98.7p. Nine bulls averaged 110.5p and 8 clean OTM cattle levelled at 145.8p.

There were also 10 dairy cattle forward at the firm's weekly sale that sold to £1700 for a second-calved Holstein Friesian cow and averaged £1324.

Wallets Marts had a nice show of 1124 well-fleshed, prime lambs forward in Castle Douglas yesterday that sold to a top of £100 per head and 217.4p per kg for the same lamb to average £72.54 and 173.8p (-6.5p on the week).

Cast sheep were a similar trade to last week with 170 heavy ewes selling to £135 for Texels and averaging £60.57, while 50 light/export-type ewes peaked at £51 for Blackfaces and levelled at £29.92.
