Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1995 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £92 per head and 204.6p per kg to average 169.1p (+2.1p on the week). Heavy lambs met a similar trade to last week, while export-types with flesh were slightly sharper.
A large show of cast sheep saw all types dearer on the week with 373 heavy ewes selling to £143.50 for a pure Texel and averaging £79.60, while 520 light/export-type ewes peaked at £75.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £38.20.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 32 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 253p per kg and an average of 227p (+4p), while 37 prime bullocks peaked at 247p and levelled at 211p (-6p).
In the rough ring 63 beef cows sold to 165p and averaged135p (-7p).
There were also 1940 prime lambs that sold to £97 and 198.8p to average 170p (-5p).
The 713 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £107 for a Suffolk and average £88, while light ewes peaked at £79 for Cheviots and levelled at £40.
The firm also sold 10 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 247.5p and an average of 223.6p (+21.2p), while 4 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 224.5p and levelled at 217.2p (+5.8p). Six prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 152.5p and averaged 138p (-50.5p). Forty prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 228.5p and averaged 197.2p (-4.9p), while 20 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 163.5p and levelled at 155.6p (-4.1p).
In the rough ring 129 beef cows sold to 187.5p and averaged 128.3p (-7.1p), while 233 dairy cows peaked at 161.5p and levelled at 92.3p (-6.3p). Ten bulls sold to 140.5p and averaged 105.2p (-24.6p).
There were also 1622 prime lambs that sold to £100.80 and 227.3p to average 177.3p (+6p).
The 166 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £102 for Texels and averaged £61.15, while 62 light ewes peaked at £51 for Blackfaces and levelled at £21.85.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 21 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 256p and an average of 249p (+1p), while a prime bullock fetched 249p.
In the rough ring 30 beef cows averaged 129p (+2p) and 26 dairy cows levelled at 95.7p (-3.3p). A couple of bulls averaged 110.2p.
There were also 2368 prime lambs forward that sold to £99 and 208.5p to average 171.4p (+3.9p).
A good show of 616 heavy cast ewes sold to £143 for a Texel and averaged £67.47, while 451 light ewes peaked at £69 for a Cheviot and levelled at £36.17.
