GLASGOW-based Mactaggart & Mickel has launched a major recruitment drive to support planned expansion, including the housebuilder’s move into England.

Family-owned Mactaggart & Mickel is creating 40 new roles, declaring this would see employee numbers rise by 14 per cent, from 279 to 319, by April next year.

The company noted the growth of the workforce would support its move into England. Mactaggart & Mickel, as well as expanding its construction workforce, is bolstering its architectural, procurement, marketing, human resources, health and safety, and administration teams.

It has two residential developments already under construction in Oxfordshire, at Milton-under-Wychwood and East Challow.

Mactaggart & Mickel director Marion Forbes said: “This level of recruitment is unprecedented in our history and has arisen as a direct result of our successful expansion into England, centred on our new office in Cheltenham.”

Some of the new jobs will be based in Cheltenham, with others in the central belt of Scotland and East Lothian.

Mactaggart & Mickel achieved a 22% rise in pre-tax profits to £12.7 million in its last financial year to April 30, 2017. The company, founded in 1925, achieved this increase in profits on the back of a 14% rise in turnover to £74.3m.
