ABERDEEN’S two universities have been chosen by the Mexican Government to help put together a number of energy-focused degree courses.

Robert Gordon University and the University of Aberdeen as well as London’s Imperial College and the IFP School in France will work alongside Mexican counterparts on the provision of courses aimed at transforming training and research in Mexico’s hydrocarbon sector.

Robert Gordons will work with the Mexican Institute of Petroleum to provide a masters in drilling and well engineering and will partner with Mexican universities the Instituto Politécnico Nacional and the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey to deliver a masters in offshore oil and gas engineering and an MBA in oil and gas respectively.

Aberdeen University, meanwhile, will deliver two engineering research projects alongside the Instituto Potosino de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica and the Mexican Institute of Petroleum and will also be involved with a law degree and a research project on hydrocarbon law.

It is anticipated that the collaboration will extend to assisting in the development of longer-term relationships between governments, trade bodies, industry associations and educational institutions, and to use lessons learned from the North Sea to support capacity building.
