Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 8 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1338.40 per head and 239p per kg to average £1179.80 or 222.9p, while 8 prime bullocks peaked at £1349.60 or 241p to level at £943.81 or 188.1p.

In the rough ring 67 beef cows sold to £1420 or 174.2p to average 103.4p, while 69 dairy cows peaked at £1000 and 139.9p to level at 85.8p. Nine bulls sold to £1470 or 147p to average 107.6p, while 6 clean OTM cattle peaked at £820 and 154.5p to level at 134.2p.

There were also 46 dairy cattle that included 38 young stock off WM Ralston & Sons, Nether Bracco Farm. In-milk heifers sold to £1950 for a fresh-calved Holstein Friesian and averaged £1466.25. Six in-calf heifers sold to £1200 and averaged £1165, 15 bulling heifers peaked at £940 and levelled at £847.50, while 17 young calves sold to £660 and averaged£546

Wallets Marts sold 1022 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £88 per head or 199.1p per kg to averaged £73.32 or 163.3p (+2.3p on the week).

Cast sheep were also sharper on the week with 165 heavy ewes selling to £98 for Texels and averaging £67.84, while 307 light/export-type ewes peaked at £53 for Blackfaces and levelled at £29.94.
