Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold seven prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1385 per head and 244p per kg to average £1248 and 230.6p.

In the rough ring 74 beef cows averaged 87.6p and 123 dairy cows levelled at 82.1p. Twelve bulls averaged 108.4p.

The firm also had 93 beef-breeding cattle forward when the top prices and averages were as follows: Heifers with calf-at-foot to a top of £2200 and averaged £1566.56 for 32; cows with calves £1600 and £980.57 for 32; in-calf cows £1280 and £1026.66 for 22; bulling heifers £1040 and £950 for 4; bulls to 2300gns for a Beef Shorthorn and averaged £1820 for 3.

A modest show of 8 dairy cattle were easy to cash and peaked at £1900 for a Freshly-calved Holstein Friesian heifer to average £1446.25.

Wallets Marts sold 1122 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £92.50 per head and 210.8p per kg to average £73.55 and 166.9p (+3.6p on the week).

Cast sheep were slightly easier on the week with 154 heavy ewes selling to £83 for Texels and averaging £52.33, while 276 light/export-type ewes peaked at £52 for Blackfaces and levelled at £36.56.
