Orbital Marine Engineering has signed an agreement to demonstrate its floating tidal technology at the Morlais Tidal Energy Project on the coast of Anglesey, Wales.
The deal with the not-for-profit Menter Mon will see Orbital deploy its new O2 two megawatt (MW) turbine, which the renewable energy specialist believes to be most powerful tidal generating platform in the world. Each 2MW unit produces enough electricity for 1,500 homes.
Andrew Scott, chief executive of Orbital Marine, said: “The Morlais project gives us line of sight to a commercial and scalable tidal energy array in UK waters.”
