A management consultant and a beauty therapist have teamed up to open a state-of-the-art training school for the beauty industry.

The facility which is based in Cumbernauld and was founded by Kate Berry and Jenny Storey combines their business and beauty backgrounds and provides recognised accredited training in all aspects of beauty care and treatment.

After significant investment and then support from Business Gateway Lanarkshire, the business opened the new facility including an in-house salon and the Academy of Clinical Training and Urban Retreat now employ ten members of staff, while next year it aims to deliver over 700 courses.

Ms Berry said: "The idea came to me when Jenny who has 15 years in the beauty industry including as a university qualified lecturer, asked if I would be her model on a training course she was completing.

"When we got to the facility it was small and basic and I realised that there was an opportunity to provide a range of beauty therapy courses in a first class centre, allowing people to do their training in a state-of-the-art, luxury environment."

Elaine Kerr, of Business Gateway Lanarkshire, said: "As well as the DigitalBoost Health Check, Kate and Jenny are now accessing support to identify solutions that will lead directly to efficiencies across the business, particularly with internal communications and externally with their client base.

"We have also identified key areas within their marketing strategy that need to be addressed and strengthened that will attract new clients and ultimately increase sales."
