GLASGOW IT business Boston Networks has made its second acquisition since being bought out by investment fund Aliter Capital at the start of this year, taking over North Shields technology business 2020 Vision Systems.

The new addition, which has a presence in the north east of England as well as the Midlands, specialises in IP-enabled security technology, video surveillance, access control and converged security solutions.

Boston Networks chief executive Scott McEwan said the acquisition would deepen his company’s services in the further education sector in addition to “enhancing our existing security offering”.

“We look forward to leveraging 2020’s many years of experience of working in key areas of critical physical security, which will help us to drive towards the next phase of our growth as we continue to focus on applying technology to improve the performance, safety and security of people, buildings and assets,” he added.

The deal comes after Boston Networks acquired London-based security alarm business PEL Services in April, with that deal coming after Aliter Capital bought a majority stake in Boston Networks in January.

Aliter Capital, whose investments focus on the support services sector, was founded in 2016 and raised its first fund last year. When it bought a stake of more than 75 per cent in Boston Networks the IT company’s co-founder and chairman Keith Anderson left the business.

Together with members of his family Mr Anderson had owned more than 70% of the company’s equity, with Mr McEwan holding the remainder. Since leaving Boston Networks Mr Anderson has incorporated lettings business Blue Mountain Estates.
