Space matters

GONE are the days when office workers would expect much more than a tidy desk and a kitchen to make tea in. Architects and developers are increasingly designing workspaces which can enhance the wellness of their occupants. So much so that Sheppard Robson, the architectural practice, is about to hold a third event in its wellbeing series, titled Designing Spaces for Mind and Body. The event will take the form of a breakfast panel discussion at the offices of law firm MacRoberts in Glasgow on January 24. Speakers will come from FORE Partnership, Glasgow Life, Scottish Autism and MacRoberts.

Reality check

DRY January is never likely to be a concept embraced by drinks retailers, so why pretend? That would appear to be logic at Oddbins, which with this chalkboard (below) offers a realistic assessment of how likely people in Glasgow will be able to avoid alcohol this month. Our thanks to Liam McIlvanney, author of award-winning novel The Quaker, for sharing this vignette on Twitter.

Deserved break

A GLASGOW tech firm focused on the care sector has started 2019 in noble fashion. Communicare247 has teamed up with Carers Trust Scotland to give 30 young careers a weekend at the Hunters Quay Holiday Village in Dunoon next month. The event is part of the 12th annual Scottish Young Carers Festival, run by Carers Trust Scotland and the Scottish Young Carers Services Alliance. Tom Morton of Communicare247 said: “We take our hats off to these young people who give so much to help others, and we wanted to help them.”
