Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 1239 prime hoggs forward at their weekly sale at Ayr yesterday when export types were the easiest to sell and over-fat lambs the hardest to cash. Top prices on the day were £100 per head and 208.1p per kg with the final average levelling at 185.1p (-13.7p on the week).

Cast sheep were also less money on the week with 273 heavy ewes selling to £133 for a Texel and averaging £72.81, while 306 light/export-type ewes peaked at £47 for Blackfaces and levelled at £34.83.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 27 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 245p per kg and an average of 222.5p (+11p), while 21 prime bullocks peaked at 233p and levelled at 211.4p (+5p).

In the rough ring 35 beef cows sold to 209p and averaged 124p (+15p).

There were also 1214 prime hoggs that sold to £103 and 242p to average 191p (-1p).

The 472 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £119 for Suffolks and average £79, while light ewes peaked at £81 for Cheviots and levelled at £49.

The firm also sold 19 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 227.5p and an average of 205p (+3.3p), while 27 prime bullocks peaked at 224.5p and levelled at 200.2p (-3.1p). Sixty-eight prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 223.5p and averaged 188.9p (-10.2p), while 50 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 179.5p and levelled at 153.9p (+3.9p).

In the rough ring 128 beef cows sold to 206.5p and averaged 122.6p (+2.9p), while 211 dairy cows peaked at 162.5p and levelled at 89.1p (+7.7p). Fourteen bulls sold to 175.5p and averaged 126.2p (+10.3p).

There were also 1268 prime hoggs that sold to £114.80 and 257.1p to average 186.2p (-5.1p).

A modest show of cast sheep saw 221 heavy cast ewes sell to £131.50 for Texels and average £64.24, while 59 light ewes peaked at £54.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £36.53.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 18 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 250p and an average of 245p (+6p), while a couple of prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 228p (+8p). Nine prime, B&W bullocks sold to 143p and averaged 138p (no comparison), while 3 prime bulls levelled at 205p (no comparison).

In the rough ring 50 beef cows averaged 110p (+3p) and 47 dairy cows levelled at 89p (+2p). Three bulls averaged 110p (no comparison).

There were also 2309 prime hoggs that sold to £109 and 231p to average 193p (-4p).

A large show of cast sheep saw 571 heavy ewes sell to £154 for a Texel and average £80.15, while 575 light ewes peaked at £78 for a Cheviot and levelled at £51.95.
