Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 13 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1452 per head and 240p per kg to average £1142.66 or 211.6p, while 6 prime bulls peaked at £1111.25 and 175p to level at £874.08 or 163.4p.

In the rough ring 78 beef cows sold to £1190 and 158p to average 112.3p, while 82 dairy cows peaked at £900 and 116.9p to level at 88.9p. Nine bulls sold to £1260 and 143.2p to average 110.6p, while 15 clean OTM cattle levelled at 144.9p.

The firm also had 22 dairy cattle forward at their January show and sale of Holstein Friesians when the champion animal in the yard was a heifer from Messrs Weatherup, Parkend that went on to sell for 2000gns. The eleven pedigree Holsteins to go under the auctioneer's hammer averaged £1885.23, while 11 commercial Holsteins levelled at £1508.

Wallets Marts sold 1687 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £93.50 per head and 209p per kg to average 180.3p (-20.5p on the week).

Cast sheep were a plainer show for quality and cheaper on the week with 82 heavy ewes averaging £58.89, and 156 light/export-type ewes levelling at £34.27.
