C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 92 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 241p per kg and an average of 186.4p, while 105 store bullocks peaked at 253.5p and levelled at 204.3p. Forty-one store, B&W bullocks sold to 165.9p and averaged 138.4p, while 19 store bulls peaked at 244.3p and levelled at 213.3p.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 990 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £95 per head and 220.3p per kg, to average 190.8p (+5.7p on the week).

There was also a small offering of cast sheep when 100 heavy ewes sold to £123 for a pure Texel and averaging £70.41, while 158 light/export-type ewes peaked at £67.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £39.42.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 43 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 261p and an average of 218.7p (-3.8p), while 24 prime bullocks peaked at 245p and levelled at 215.6p (+4.2p).

In the rough ring 31 beef cows sold to 183p and averaged 127.8p (+3.8p).

There were also 13pp prime hoggs that sold to £107 and 259p to average 191p (no change).

The 275 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £117 for Texels and average £77, while light ewes peaked at £65 for Cheviots and levelled at £47.

The firm also sold 22 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 250.5p and an average of 206.4p (+1.4p), while 21 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 227.5p and levelled at 210.6p (+10.5p). Three prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 170.5p and averaged 166.5p (no comparison). Forty-three prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 229.5p and averaged 192.2p (+3.3p), while 30 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 178.5p and levelled at 151.9p (-2p).

There were also 1586 prime hoggs that sold to £117.80 and 281p to average 193.8p (+7.6p).

A modest show of cast sheep were also dearer on the week with 103 heavy ewes selling to £110.50 for Texels and averaging £71.11, while 40 light ewes peaked at £64.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £40.27.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 22 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 251p and an average of 242p (-3p), while 8 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 236p and levelled at 227p (-1p). Eighteen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 150p and averaged 138p (no change), while a couple of prime bulls levelled at 195p (-5p).

In the rough ring 35 beef cows averaged 110p (no change) and 20 dairy cows levelled at 90p (+1p).

A large show of 2736 prime hoggs sold to £99 and 234p to average 192p (-1p).

There was also another large show of cast sheep when 448 heavy ewes sold to £142 for a Texel and averaged £74.60, while 730 light ewes peaked at £75 for a Cheviot and levelled at £50.08.
