MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 11 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1,379.40 per head and 238p per kg to average £1,096.56 or 211.1p, while four prime bullocks peaked at £1,398.25 and 235p to level at £1,140.90 or 195p.

In the rough ring all classes were firmer on the week with 70 beef cows selling to £1,160 and 163.8p to average 115.8p, while 72 dairy cows peaked at £1,000 and 136.1p to level at 90.8p. Four bulls sold to £1,350 and 162.7p to average 125p, while 18 mostly dairy-bred, clean OTM cattle peaked at £1,040 and 155.7p to level at 130.3p.

A good show of 10 dairy cattle sold to £1,900 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1610.

Wallets Marts Ltd sold 1259 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £94 per head and 223.8p per kg to average 188p (+7.7p on the week).

Cast sheep were also a sharper trade on the week with 176 heavy ewes selling to £97 for Texels and averaging £59.53, while 31 light/export-type ewes peaked at £53 for Blackfaces and levelled at £32.23.
