WOOD has won a $8 million (£6.2m) contract to help design a massive oil refinery that will be built in the Middle East. Aberdeen-based Wood has been employed by the Abu Dhabi national oil company to complete engineering and design work on a new refinery in the western region of the Emirate. This is set to become the world’s largest refining and petrochemicals complex. The refinery in Ruwais is expected to be able to handle 600,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Led by chief executive Robin Watson, Wood sees the Middle East as an important growth area as its North Sea oil services arm grapples with tough market conditions.
