LAWRIE & Symington Ltd sold 16 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 242p per kg and an average of 226.5p (-2.1p on the week), while six prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 214p and levelled at 206.1p (no change). Sixteen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 163.5p and averaged 151.5p (+5.2p).

In the rough ring 25 beef cows averaged 134p (+2p) and 67 dairy cows levelled at 110p (no change).

The firm also sold 1,498 prime hoggs to a top of £111 per head and 265.5p per kg to average 171.9p (-4p).

The 509 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £130 for a Texel and average £73.84, while light ewes peaked at £76.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £44.88.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 12 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 241p and an average of 228.6p, while a prime bullock fetched 215p.

In the rough ring 58 beef cows averaged 147.8p and 97 dairy cows levelled at 115.6p.

The firm also had 141 beef-breeding cattle forward at their May sale. Top prices and averages: Heifers with calf-at-foot to £2,500 and averaged £1,893.10 for 30; cows with calves £1,850 and £1,350 for eight; five in-calf cows averaged £794; bulling heifers £1,460 and £1,132 for 92; bulls to 3000gns for a Simmental and averaged £2065 for six.

There was also a small show of four dairy cattle that sold to £1500 for a freshly-calved Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1267.

Wallets Marts sold 340 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £92 and 205.3p to average 158.6p (-8p).

The 207 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £115 for Texel, £72 for Mules and £60 for Blackfaces.
