Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held a sale of pedigree Limousin bulls in Carlisle on Saturday when three made 50,000gns or more, with 47 fetching over 6,000gns. Leading the day’s trade was a January 2016 born bull, Ampertaine Mozart from James McKay, Maghers, Co. Derry that sold for 100,000gns.

The final average for the 128 sold levelled at £7712.70 (up £1294 on the year for an 88 per cent clearance).

The firm went on to sell 11 prime heifers at the same venue yesterday to a top of 225.5p per kg and an average of 171.9p (+3.8p on the week), while 24 prime bullocks peaked at 224.5p and levelled at 201.4p (+6p). Twenty-four prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 234.5p and averaged 194.1p (+4.9p), while 49 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 182.5p and levelled at 163.2p (+7.4p).

In the rough ring 118 beef cows sold to 219.5p and averaged 118.9p (+7.2p), while 204 dairy cows peaked at 176.5p and levelled at 118.9p (+6p).

The 626 prime hoggs forward sold to £106 per head and 216.4p per kg to average 195.2p (+15.9p), while 42 prime lambs peaked at £114 and 266.7p to level at 219.2p (+8.1p).

All of the 93 cast ewes forward were heavy types that sold to £115.50 for Texels and averaged £83.72.

The firm also sold 44 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 246p and an average of 224p (+9.4p), while 25 prime bullocks peaked at 241p and levelled at 218p (+3.5p).

In the rough ring 59 beef cows sold to 207p and averaged 140p (no change).

There were also 825 prime hoggs that sold to £100 and 200p to average 177p (+12p), while 53 prime lambs peaked at £131 and 276p to level at £121 and 256p (+46p).

The 286 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £101 for Texels and average £89, while light ewes peaked at £71 for Cheviots and levelled at £55.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1174 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £99 and 217.5p to average 176.6p (+4.1p), while 63 prime lambs peaked at £112 and 234.2p to level at 222.3p (+3.3p).

There were also 372 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes sold to £135.50 for a pen of Texels and averaged £77.11, while light ewes peaked at £70 for Blackfaces and levelled at £52.32.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 20 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 252p and an average of 237.6p (+5.2p), while 4 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 243p and levelled at 235.2p (+29.1p). Eight prime, B&W bullocks sold to 163.5p and averaged 152.5p (+1p). In the rough ring 49 beef cows averaged 134p (no change) and 50 dairy cows levelled at 111p (+1p). The firm sold 1488 prime hoggs to a top of £112 and 254p to average 178.2p (+6.3p), while 20 prime lambs peaked at £124 and 257p to level at 237p (+16.6p).

The 441 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £134 for Texels and average £81.25, while light ewes peaked at £86.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £60.09.

Wallets Marts sold 91 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1245 per head and 272.9p per kg to average £830 and 226.4p (-7p on the fortnight), while 114 store bullocks peaked at £1320 and 264.7p to level at £878 and 232.8p (-17p).

There were also 108 beef-breeding cattle forward when 32 heifers with calf-at-foot sold to £2300 and averaged £1871.81, while 73 bulling heifers peaked at £1190 and levelled at £983.56.
