MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 818 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £100 per head and 208.3p per kg to average 178.4p (+2.1p on the week), while 142 prime lambs also peaked at £100, but had a higher price per kg of 241.5p and levelled at 209.4p (-12.9p).

There were also 542 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes sold to £136 for Texels and averaged £78.84, while light ewes peaked at £62.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £48.45.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 43 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 255p per kg and an average of 220p (-4p), while 18 prime bullocks peaked at 238p and levelled at 216p (-2p). A couple of prime bulls sold to 157p and average 151p (no comparison).

In the rough ring 68 beef cows sold to 211p and averaged 153p (+13p).

There were also 394 prime hoggs that sold to £94 and 186p to average 157.5p (-19.5p), while 306 prime lambs peaked at £113 and 237.9p to level at 202p (-54p).

The 303 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes average £83 and light ewes level at £46.

The firm also sold 13 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 239.5p and an average of 201.4p (+29.6p), while 30 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 224.5p and levelled at 194.3p (-7.1p). A couple of prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 152.5p and averaged 143.5p (no comparison). Forty-one prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 247.5p and averaged 199p (+4.9p), while 34 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 182.5p and levelled at 162.9p (-0.3p).

In the rough ring 121 beef cows sold to 217.5p and averaged 133p (-16.7p), while 237 dairy cows peaked at 172.5p and levelled at 110.6p (-8.3p). Thirty-two bulls sold to 156.5p and averaged 131.1p (+0.5p).

There were also 634 prime hoggs that sold to £108.80 and 230.1p to average 198.3p (+3.1p), while 212 prime lambs peaked at £110 and 253.7p to level at 211,3p (-7.9p).

A small show of 121 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £120 for Texels and average £79.79, while light ewes peaked at £63.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £53.28.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 26 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 248p and an average of 223.5p (+14.1p), while 10 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 218p and levelled at 210.2p (-25p). Twenty prime, B&W bullocks sold to 167.5p and averaged 155.8p (+3.3p).

In the rough ring 40 beef cows averaged 129p (-5p) and 50 dairy cows levelled at 106p (-5p). Three bulls averaged 110p.

The firm also sold 1161 prime hoggs to a top of £108.50 and 226p to average 187.9p (+9.7p), while 55 prime lambs peaked at £114 and 260.7p to level at 215.8p (-21.2p).

The 346 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £141.50 for Texels and average £85.48, while light ewes peaked at £88.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £52.31.
