Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 6 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 235p per kg and an average of 225.2p, while 4 prime bullocks peaked at 221p and levelled at 196.1p. A prime bull fetched 180p.

In the rough ring 68 beef cows averaged 140.6p and 69 dairy cows levelled at 115p. Six bulls averaged 121.5p.

There was a plainer show of 8 dairy cattle forward at the weekly sale when the top price of £1200 was paid for an Ayrshire cow and the overall average levelled at £1100.

The firm also had 162 beef-breeding cattle forward at its monthly sale. Eighty-four heifers with calf-at-foot sold to £2400 and averaged £1925, while 68 bulling heifers peaked at £1380 and levelled at £1121.18. Ten bulls sold to 2400gns for an Aberdeen Angus and averaged £1753.

Wallets Marts sold 58 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £104 per head and 202.5p per kg to average 168.2p (-3.3p on the week), while 493 prime lambs peaked at £119 and 313.2p to level at £103.82 and 252.4p (+11.1p).

A small show of 112 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £115 for Texels, £69 for Mules and £63 for Blackfaces.
